New managing director at Galway Arts Centre E-mail

Well known actor Páraic Breathnach is the new managing director of Galway Arts Centre. A much respected and valued member of the Galway Arts community, Mr Breathnach's appointment will be welcomed by arts practitioners and lovers of the arts alike both in Galway and beyond.

Credited with being among those to have established many of Galway's leading arts organisations, such as Macnas, the Galway's Arts Festival and The Town Hall Theatre, in recent years Mr Breathnach became more familiar to a national audience through his media work with RTÉ and TG4 on programmes such as Soiscéal Pháraic, (TG4) Eleventh Hour, (RTÉ Radio 1) and Theatre in the Round( RTé Radio 1). He has also taken roles in a number of high profile film and TV productions such as Michael Collins; Breakfast on Pluto; Batchelor's Walk and Killnascully. "We are delighted to welcome Páraic on board," said David Niland, Chairman of the Galway Arts Centre.

"This job offer generated a lot of interest from highly qualified applicants, both nationally and internationally from which Páraic emerged as the successful candidate. To have someone with his wealth of knowledge and experience managing our wonderful team will be invaluable. We are looking forward to an exciting new era in the history of the Galway Arts Centre."

As well as spearheading the further development of the centre itself, Mr Breathnach will now work on furthering the success stories that are The C?irt International Festival of Literature - Ireland's premier literary festival and Tulca ? Festival of Visual Art. He will also work closely with the award winning Galway Youth Theatre. Páraic will take up his new role from Wednesday 3 January.
