What was the highlight of the last year?

It had many highlights. The one that springs to mind immediately is playing New York, where I ended up on stage singing a song of mine called 'Indiscriminate Act of Kindness' with Pete Townshend and Martha Wainwright and Rachel Fuller on backing vocals. Also that weekend I wrote a song in the toilet of my New York hotel and it's now on my album. That's always a good thing

What are your plans for the year ahead?

Well there's the Irish tour in early September followed by a UK tour. On top of that I'm working with David Holmes on a remix of one of my tracks and also working on his new album (which sounds amazing!). I'm really enjoying seeing his album unfold, and being part of it. Aside from these things, I'll take everything else as it comes.

Where next after Galway?

Limerick, where else!

How did you get involved in the business?

By complete accident! I wasn't looking for a job in music; I was just pursuing music full stop, then through a very tenuous link my name was given to a guy that was looking for a singer to front his soul band. I was introduced to this guy (Linley Hamilton) and we got on like a house on fire.  I joined the band that had a full diary of dates that were booked when they originally set out with the other singer. I think the band were about to pull all the gigs and split up until I turned up at the final hour. All in all, it was a fragile situation but it came good. It gave me my introduction to playing live, touring all over the place, and playing a few gigs a week.

What inspires you?

Musically speaking, it's anything that seems true. I'm not a fan of any one genre. Other than that, just about everything from Picasso to crisp morning air.

Out of all the countries in the world what was the best place you
performed in?

Belfast. Every time I go home, I'm overwhelmed by the support I get there.  Belfast people are really green for music these days more than ever, and they really go all out to support local artists. Walking into a room full of people that want you to do well is a unique and inspiring feeling that up until now I've only really experienced in Belfast.

What is the best/worst thing about the entertainment industry?

The best things are generally the things you never hear about, like most things in life, the unsung heroes. It everything, from the artists that just weren't deemed commercially viable enough to get the deal that helped them continue on, but that still create wonderful music and tour the back roads, to the people working behind the scenes that put up with all sorts of sh*t just to be involved in that one act that they're passionate about. They're wonderful things to encounter.
