The biggest misconception about entertainers is that they throw TVs out hotel windows! Some of them meticulously take them apart and send them down in the lift, County Down musician Foy Vance tells Lisa Regan

Is this your first time performing in Galway?

dsc_22591902_image.jpg No, I've played the Róisín Dubh a couple of times, once with Bic Runga and once with my own band. Even before this, I used to come down to Galway to play in the Quays. I was playing bass and singing in a funk band and Galway was always on our map so to speak.

How do you find performing in Galway?

I find it like lots of places in Ireland, not to take form its uniqueness, but most of the good Irish venues attract a great crowd. Last time I played in the Róisín Dubh was a great experience; people seem very green for music here at the minute, which is a good sign, I think.

How does performing in Galway differ from other performances?

That's too difficult to give an exact answer to. I find that no two performances are the same, nor should they be. What I try to do as best I can is respond to the vibe in the room, which has never been defined by where people come from geographically; it's always just what they come expecting. The last two gigs in Galway were completely different, because the first gig was a support and no one knew me, so expected little if anything at all. The next gig was my own, so some people returned from having seen me the first time, and came with expectations. These two gigs were in the same place but were very different.

Can you tell us a bit about the show?

The show is based mainly on songs from my last three releases (1.Live sessions and the Birth of the Toilet Tour EP 2.Watermelon Oranges EP 3.my debut album 'Hope'). I try to leave the shows a bit open ended to give them room to go somewhere I hadn't planned on. I very rarely write a set list and when I do I never stick to it. For me to go out and play the same set of songs in the same order every night would make it too easy to slip into a comfortable habit. I enjoy feeling on a limb at gigs, the thought that it's always on the edge of a real moment or a real disaster.

What have you been up to until now?

This year I went into a cottage in the mountains of Mourne and recorded my debut album. That was January. For a few months after that I was recording bits and pieces and mixing it, then it was onto doing a few gigs to support it.  I've been gigging around the UK throughout the summer following the release of my album in July.
