After its successful run in November in 2007, Druid again presents My Brilliant Divorce by Geraldine Aron in the Town Hall Theatre from Monday 18 to Saturday 23 February. Deirdre O'Kane stars in My Brilliant Divorce ? the hilarious but poignant story of Angela ? who, recently deserted by her accountant husband for a younger model, finds herself adrift in a sea of weird sexual encounters, sneaky solicitors, phone-in counsellors, a bad case of hypochondria and the spectre of poverty. Should she fight to keep her husband? Or should she sign the final papers and move on? One of Ireland's best known stand-up comedians, Deirdre began her career as an actress and has played every major theatre in Ireland as well as touring to Australia, Canada and the UK. Her most recent role was Jean in two sold-out runs of Dandelions at the Olympia in 2006. Geraldine Aron was born in Galway, but spent most of her adult life in Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. She now divides her time between Cape Town and London. Geraldine's association with Druid goes back to 1978 when Garry Hynes directed the Irish premiere of her first play, the multi-award winning Bar and Ger. Her plays, produced throughout the world, include A Galway Girl, Same Old Moon, The Donahue Sisters and The Stanley Parkers. She is the author of twelve plays produced for television and radio, and Toscanini, a screenplay directed by Franco Zeffirelli. Tickets, €24 are available from the Town Hall theatre on 091-569777. |
