As a remedy to the post holiday blues and January darkness, Music For Galway is to host a weekend festival of the music of Schubert at the Town Hall Theatre from Friday, 18 January. ![]() Music for Galway's January festival has grown from strength to strength in recent years. Having outgrown its initial venue and with ongoing support by Digital Enterprise Research Institute, DERI, this is the festival's second year in the Town Hall Theatre. A selection of Schubert's output will be presented over four concerts, three featuring a mixture of songs and chamber music, while on Saturday, distinguished UK pianist James Lisney presents a matinee of impromptus, which will be followed by a reception courtesy of the Austrian Embassy. The line-up includes ConTempo Quartet (Ireland/Romania), Lenneke Ruiten (Netherlands) soprano, Finghin Collins (Ireland), piano, James Lisney (UK), piano, Lesley Bishop (UK/Ireland), horn, Paul Roe (Ireland), clarinet, Malachy Robinson (Ireland), double bass and Michael Dooley (Ireland), bassoon. The Schubert Festival concludes with a special screening of the film 'Winterreise' in association with the Galway Film Society. Town Hall Theatre at 8pm.
