There's a real treat in store for music fans in Galway next month. Mozaik, a band featuring the mercurial talents of Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny, take to the stage of the Town Hall theatre for a special one-off gig on Wednesday 4 November Envisaged by venerable vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Andy Irvine, the band was 'born' in 2002 when Irvine drafted some long-time musical friends and formed his "dream band" for a one-off tour of Australia. Calling themselves Mozaik, Andy was joined by Donal Lunny, Dutch guitarist Rens van der Zalm, Hungarian bagpiper Nikola Parov and American fiddler Bruce Molsky. They have since released two albums, 'Live from the Powerhouse' (2003) and 'Changing Trains' (2007) and have toured Australia, Europe and America. Mozaik is a truly international ensemble that can not only perform music from a wide array of cultures, but interweave their myriad influences into an entirely new sound. Moving effortlessly from Celtic to old-time to Eastern European music, these musicians are as versatile and eclectic as the music created between them, whose traditions and styles are distinct yet blend beautifully to form a cohesive work of art. Doors open at 8pm. Tickets (€25) are available for booking now from the Town Hall box office on 091-569777 or at www.tht.ie. |
