Message Blank and Brian Dolly will play The Freedom Café at the Amnesty International shop on Middle Street on Thursday 29 May, starting at 5pm. ![]() Message Blank. Message Blank are a recently formed four-piece band, including two brothers from the Aran Islands, and lads from Roscommon and Galway respectively. They are an ambitious group in the process of writing an album of indie/pop or indie/rock music. Their influences include Elton John, U2, The Killers, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Declan O'Rourke, The Police and Stu Hamm. They are playing at 6pm and this will be their first time performing together. Brian Dolly was born in Los Angeles but lived in Galway since the age of ten. He grew up in Roscommon. He describes his songs as being like "documented trials and tribulations of teen years through college on to disbelief at the scary world that lay in front of me after". Brian also wrote a lot of songs when he lived in Los Angeles for six months and where he, with moments of realisation, reached a transition in life. "That's what inspired me if you take the time to stop and think," Brian said. When he returned home, he went back studying sound engineering and it was that, along with encouragement from a friend, that inspired him to make an album. Songs from ten years back has developed and a lot of new songs has been written for the album 'Rock of Solitude', which features a big collaboration of musicians from Galway on guitar, drums, keyboard, harmonica, trumpet, sax, violin, flute, you name it. Admission is free. If you are interested in playing or require details contact Anna Sorensdotter, Amnesty International, 2-3 Middle Street on 091-533637 or check out www.amnesty.ie. |
