The first Irish language production of John McGahern’s only stage play will begin its run at An Taibhdearc this week.
Scáth an Oilc, better known as The Power of Darkness, is directed by Tommy McArdle, and will run at An Taibhdhearc from Thursday 4 October to Saturday 13 October. After the Galway run, the play will be staged, for two nights only, in John McGahern’s home county of Leitrim.
Scáth an Oilc reflects a fallen world, where some people are willing to go to any extreme to get their hands on land. The story is set in an old Irish farmhouse where a wealthy Irish landowner is dying, with land, greed, sexual ignorance and redemption the main themes in this powerful play.
Tickets are priced at €17/€12. For further information or to reserve tickets, telephone An Taibhdhearc at 091-563600.
