Connection, an exhibition of over 60 paintings donated to the Oncology Department at University Hospital Galway by artists from the Paint Box Studios, opened in the Art Corridor at UHG last Friday. The ethos of the exhibition is about people connecting to help one another. The inspiration for the exhibition came from a patient who wanted to make the oncology day ward a more enjoyable place to spend the long hours required for treatment.

It is well known that art can play an important part in a cancer patient’s journey and it is hoped that these paintings will make that journey a little easier.

Sinead Kavanagh, who attends painting classes at the Paint Box, asked her friends and colleagues to donate some paintings for the ward and the response was overwhelming, with over 60 artists donating paintings to this project.
