Amnesty International, in association with Bród Ireland West, is organising 'Love Behind the Mask' - a fund-raising and awareness gig on Friday 22 August in the Róisín Dubh, Dominick Street. Celebrate in a Mardi Gras spirit a night of music, comedy, short films and more; the right to be yourself.

During the event, Executive Director Colm O'Gorman will give a talk on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual rights and the right to marriage, which is the theme of Bród Ireland West's Pride Week this year.

"Human rights are universal. This means that they belong to all people by virtue of their humanity. They are inalienable. Every person is entitled to all rights. The right to marry is a fundamental human right and should not be denied to anyone on the basis of their gender, or indeed their sexual orientation."

The Rye, an extraordinary five-piece, presenting one of the freshest and most exciting approaches to Irish music heard in recent times. Playing, in their words, 'savage driven ceol,' it is pure high-spirited, full-blown entertainment. Shake it to The Dotty Dolls, bringing their fresh flamenco hip-hop style live and direct from the Costa del Sol. Be swept away by Niceol Blue, described as "an exceptional singer-songwriter with powerful vocals" and as a "red-headed acoustica" with a unique style; a mix of blues, rock and folk-Americana, strongly influenced by world and traditional music. Drawing on folk, classical, indie-pop and alternative music, Eamonn 'Ebby' Brett, a piano-playing songwriter, will enthral with his story-driven style. MC on the night, Mrs Nellie Murphy, is a fishmonger from Dublin who famously studied 'Erotic Writing For The Elderly Lady' while in America. She has made many great nights for good causes with her energy and enthusiasm.

Bród Ireland West is Galway's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Pride Festival.

Doors are open at 8.30pm, Colm O'Gorman to speak at 9.30pm and the party continues until late. Tickets, €8/€6 are available from Amnesty International, 2-3 Middle Street or from the Róisín Dubh.
