Club Scannán Sailearna, Galway's newest film society, will launch its second season of films this Thursday, 10 January, with a special screening of the German film 'The Lives of Others' in Seanscoil Sailearna, Indreabhán.

The film, made in 2006, has won many honours at film festivals. It focuses on the dilemma of a Stasi secret police officer, who in serving the Communist East German regime is asked to spy on a popular dramatist, for whom he has much admiration.

Other foreign films included in the spring season of Club Scannan Sailearna are the much acclaimed 'Le Grand Voyage' (France); 'Water' (India); 'Days of Glory' (France/Morocco); 'Night of the Sunflowers' (Spain) and 'Lady Chatterley' (France).

The spring season of films is sponsored by the Galway Film Fleadh. The films are shown on alternate Thursday nights in Amharchlann Chois Fharraige, starting at 8.15pm.
