With the recent resurgence of quality underground music in Galway it's no surprise to see drum n bass also come to the fore again with the success of the Recipe nights upstairs @ An Púcán.

Galway has always had a strong drum n bass scene and that looks set to continue as DJs such as Jay Q, Ernie, Flo and Ben O'Faoilain drop the freshest tunes and the beats that helped shape the genre back in the day. As Jay Q says, "the focus at any good drum n bass night is to play across the board and incorporate all styles of the music while still retaining the cutting edge breakbeat drum n bass has always had".

Recipe takes place every second Thursday @ The Junction, An Púcán. The next one is 10 April. DJs will be Jay Q & Ernie.

Top Ten

1. Icicle - 'Lost Hours'
Deep rollin' vibes from one of the new breed of producers

2. LTJ Bukem - 'Switch'
Danny Bukem's first drum n bass tune in five years and it was worth the wait!! A simple two chord riff and sampled vocal snippets, one for the music lovers.

3.Fracture & Survival - 'Tracks Of Time'
Stunning chords and a rollin' bassline you can hum along to… if ya like!!

4.Roni Size - 'It's Jazzy'
A classic from jungle's golden era, elastic bass and the 'It's jazzy' sample make this instantly recognizable.

5.Commix feat Steve Spacek - 'How Ya Gonna Feel'
Every now and again drum n bass produces a breathtaking vocal tune and this is one of them… a simple three note bassline and Spacek on top form, soul in motion!

6.Lynx - 'Disco Dodo'
Last year's best and most original slice of drum n bass action. A simple off key beat, a hip-hop sample and you've got instant dancefloor carnage!

7. Artificial Intelligence - 'Bloodlines'
A.I. showcase their widescreen techno influenced sound on this monster. Has to be played loud to be fully appreciated!

8.Commix - 'Faceless (Intalex remix)'
Marcus Intalex takes a trip to Detroit with this latest Commix creation. Bleep techno and bass anyone??

9.Krakken - 'Side Effects'
Dirty dirty tune from 1998. Twisted bass and drums still sound fresh ten years later.

10.NOSIA - 'Hubcap'
This hasn't left my bag for a year. Absolutely rockin' tune from the Dutch masters, always gets a rewind… and I hate rewinds!!!
