Japanese artist Keiko Mukaide and Galway woman Alannah Robbins have become the first recipients of a new award of excellence at the Outside: Insight sculpture exhibition in Brigit's Garden, Roscahill. Keiko Mukaide, Ceara Conway and Tom Kenny. Mukaide's sculpture consists of glass spheres wrapped in wire, while Robbins' piece, 'The Outsider', is a ten-foot high structure of rhododendron branches. The sculptures in Outside: Insight are variously engaging, humorous, surprising and enjoyable, forming a trail through the Celtic-inspired gardens and woodlands at Brigit's Garden. Many well-known artists, including John Behan and Padraic Rainey, are represented. The public are invited to visit Outside: Insight and vote for their favourite sculpture. A second award worth €500 will be awarded in August to the creator of the most popular work. "The idea behind the Public Award is to encourage both adults and children to engage with and enjoy the sculptures. The show is of a very high standard and appeals to all age groups, and we hope it will grow into an annual event," explained Brigit's Garden founder Jenny Beale. Outside: Insight is open from 10am to 6 pm daily until Sunday 31 August. For further information, phone 091-550905 or see www.brigitsgarden.ie. |
