A top Canadian music festival comes to these shores in July when Indie Week comes to Ireland to showcase the best independent acts from all over Europe, Ireland and Canada. Starting on Wednesday 1 July (Canada Day), Indie Week will be a whirlwind four-day tour of Ireland that will see it stop into the Roisin Dubh in Galway on Thursday 2 July. Three of Canada's best independent acts – Latefallen, Bella Clava and Purrr – will also be packing their bags and coming along for the ride. All acts have played Indie Week Canada in past years and these shows will be their first in Ireland. Headlining all dates will be top acts from the 2007 and 2008 Canadian festival, Irish bands Vesta Varro and Walter Mitty & The Realists. Following their success at Indie Week Canada in 2007, Vesta Varro obtained a German booking agent, Canadian management, and many more festival offers and gig opportunities. A year later another Irish act – Walter Mitty & The Realists – followed in their footsteps. The band was invited to showcase at the prestigious Canadian Music Week festival this past March and was picked up by management by the end of the week. Indie Week has been taking place in Toronto, Canada since 2004. The festival has hosted some of Canada's most promising independent acts and commences every October in multiple venues around the downtown core of the city. Other Irish acts who have played Indie Week include Fred, The Minutes and The Aftermath. |
