Your blurb describes men as the 'complex species on the planet'. Is this where the comedy begins? Wow, you're a feisty one, and, while I run the risk of false advertising, I can safely say that no matter how shallow and one-dimensional men are, I will prove to you beyond doubt that we are even shallower and even more boring. We were lead to believe that women were the complex ones, are you suggesting that men have another layer? Or is it a very short production? Listen, I'll handle the jokes around here, thank you very much. Of course we're complex and multi-layered; have you never seen a man do his happy dance when he finds out that Chicken Kiev is on the menu? Or the sly little smile we give when we've just let fly with a particularly silent and aggressive fart in Brown Thomas? We're like icebergs; no matter how big the vessel, we'll sink it. What do audiences get from this production, besides the free booze? Do we actually get an insight into the male 'psyche'? You actually do! And there are moments in the show that are a little too close to the bone, both for me and the men I interviewed to help me with the script. One of the big things that baffled me, about my friends and I, was the way men can and will run after the woman who treats them mean and are oh so cool when they meet a woman that is nice to them. Find out why! What do men want? Come on, I can't condense a 90-minute show into a corny one-liner. Let's just say this, it's not what you think they always want and by the time it takes us to get whatever we want, we usually want something else. 'What Men Want' will run at the Town Hall Theatre from Monday 4 to Saturday 16 February. Tickets, €16/€14, are available from 091-569777. The show will run nightly at 8.30pm. |
