Galway Youth Orchestra will give its debut performance of the Mandolin Concerto by Johann Hummel in the Black Box Theatre on Sunday 10 May. The soloist in this concerto will be Sebastien Petiet from the RTE Concert Orchestra. Petiet has the distinction of being both a well-established classical musician and also a well-known traditional fiddler and this performance will allow a Galway audience to see a very fine mandolin exponent perform a work that is rarely heard in Ireland.

Sunday's concert will feature performances by all the GYO orchestral groups and the Alouette Wind band and will feature music by Tchaikovsky and Roman. The finale will be Beethoven's 6th Symphony, the Pastoral, which will be conducted by Michael Dooley and the Junior and Alouette Wind Band will be conducted by Joanne Cater.

Galway Youth Orchestra will hold auditions for new members on 23 May and interested players should contact GYO Administrator, Rustic Gables, Knocknacarra at 091-521324 before 18 May.
