Two of the finest prose writers at work today open the 21st Cúirt International Festival of Literature at the Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday 21 April at 8.30pm. Joseph O'Neill and Timothy O'Grady have both written highly acclaimed books, and in contrasting ways, both authors have explored the experience of living in modern America. Joseph O'Neill is an Irish barrister living in New York and is the author of two previous novels, 'This Is the Life' and 'The Breezes', as well as a memoir, 'Blood-Dark Track'. His most recent novel 'Netherland' was longlisted for last year's Man Booker Prize and was recently described by The Sunday Business Post as 'both brilliant and poignant'. Timothy O'Grady was born in the USA and has lived in Ireland, London and Spain. He is the author (with Kenneth Griffith) of 'Curious Journey: An Oral History of Ireland's Unfinished Revolution', and the novels 'Motherland', which won the David Higham award for the best first novel in 1989, and 'I Could Read the Sky', which won the Encore award for best second novel of 1997. His book 'On Golf' was published by Yellow Jersey to superb reviews in 2003 and his latest book is 'Divine Magnetic Lands: A journey in America'. |
