Epic instrumental band God Is An Astronaut play the Róisín Dubh on Friday 15 January. The three-piece from the Glen of the Downs formed in 2002 and released their debut album 'The End of the Beginning' (2002) on their Revive Records label. Their two video singles 'The End of the Beginning' and 'From Dust to the Beyond' received airplay on MTV UK and on other MTV European networks. 2005's 'All is Violent, All is Bright' (Uncut ****) was God Is An Astronaut's second album and was awash with their colossal build-ups from serene ambience to searing intensity. The band released their eponymously titled latest album in early 2009 and spent the best part of the end of last year touring Europe and playing sell out shows in Scandinavia, Poland, Turkey and beyond. Considered by many as the most intense live act to emerge from Ireland in recent times, due to their controversial audio/visual shows, this album is a closer representation of their live sound. Their single 'Fragile' from that album got regular rotation on radio and on MTV2 UK's 120-minute show and MTV's 'The Comedown' show. Doors 9pm and tickets (€12.50/€10) are available for booking now from the Róisín Dubh, www.roisindubh.net or Zhivago Shop Street. |
