Get yourself to the Town Hall Theatre on time this February for the Patrician Musical Society's production of the classic 'My Fair Lady'. ![]() This show is jam-packed with well-known numbers, including classics such as 'Get Me To The Church On Time', 'Wouldn't It Be Lovely', 'On the Street Where you Live', 'Just You Wait', 'The Rain in Spain' and 'I Could Have Danced All Night'. 'My Fair Lady' was originally a stage musical based on the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. It tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, who is a poor girl selling flowers on the streets of London until she meets Henry Higgins, a professor of linguistics. Higgins is coming out of a theatre when he hears Eliza shouting in her harsh Cockney accent. He makes a bet that he could teach Eliza to speak with such a pure upper-class accent that no one would be able to tell where she came from after six months of lessons with him. She would be able to leave the street and find a respectable job. Then commences a wonderful journey for both these characters that also introduces many other wonderful characters. This show was recently revived in the West End with Martine McCutcheon and Jonathan Price in the lead roles. Hildegarde Naughton, who has provided many memorable performances at the Town Hall over the years, will play the feisty Eliza Doolittle. Michael Coen will play Henry Higgins, supported by John McHugh as Alfie Doolittle, Fr Michael Byrnes as Pickering and Margaret Martin as Mrs Higgins. Peter Kennedy will direct, musical director is John Roe, while Mary Rose Finlan will be chorus mistress. The show will run from Tuesday 26 February to Saturday 1 March at 8pm. Early booking is strongly advised. Tickets, €20, are available from 091-569777. |
