March sees the return of the Community Skratch Games High Rollers Bonanza to Galway, an event that came into being Easter weekend 2007 in the Bierhaus, Galway.

An idea spawned into life from the dirty mind(s) of VINCE MACKMAHON (Galway hip-hop/scratch collective comprising of Deviant, Hideous Penguin, Mikey Fingers and Tweek), it's purpose is to further the art of turntable manipulation and raise awareness of Hip-Hop DJ culture, or "a riposte to the increasing commercialisation and creative cul-de-sac of modern DJ battles" as the guys themselves put it.

The centre-piece of the Skratch weekend is the Games themselves, taking place on Saturday 22 March in the Bierhaus from 3pm, amid a backdrop of workshops/seminars, skratch music showcases and a barrage of funk and hip-hop. Later on the Saturday night there will be sets from Stroller, Jeremy Murphy, Chance and others. The following night sees more hiphop/funk/turntablism goodness in Bierhaus from DJ Tweek, Grandeurs of Delusion and an, as yet, unconfirmed special guest.

To promote the 'Community Games', VINCE MACKMAHON will be holding a 24 hour Scratch-a-thon on Friday 7 March. Cutting and scratching all over town, they'll be kicking off at midnight Wednesday 7 and running through until their final improvised show in Galway's best underground music night, 'Stress' in De Burgho's. Venues confirmed as part of the daytime Scratch-a-thon so far are Bell Book & Candle (The Small Crane, Sea Road) and Pariah Clothing (downstairs in Eyre Square Centre), with more venues to be announced.

All info on the Games and Scratch-a-thon on Thursday 7 March can be found at www.myspace.com/communityskratchgames.
