Do you think the Galway Film Fleadh is an important fleadh in the movie world calendar?

Yes, without a doubt. It’s the premier Irish festival and you only have to look at the quality of international producers and financiers who attend to see its importance, not only to Ireland but globally as well. It being the only film market in Ireland makes it hugely important for our homegrown filmmakers who really get a great opportunity to promote their work.

Do you prefer doing TV drama or working on films?

I love them both! While they are similar mediums, TV and film are very different. Film can create wonderful stories with great characters, but the story finishes in two hours, so it has finality. You can throw yourself into a film because you know where it starts and where it ends. TV is constantly evolving. When we start filming a TV series it’s not all written, you don't know the end of the story, so in a way it’s harder. You have to get to know the character very well and, since the story is constantly changing, you have to be very aware all the time.

What have you been up to lately? Any major roles in the mix?

Apart from being mid-way through filming the new season of ‘The Clinic’, I've most recently completed filming ‘Satellites & Meteorites’, a romantic fantasy, and ‘A Film With Me in It’, a black comedy. I've also managed to do a couple of short films in the meantime, which are great for honing your skills as an actor.

If you could star alongside anyone who would that be?

Cate Blanchett or Brendan Gleeson.

What is next for you?

We're filming on ‘The Clinic’ until late August and after that I'm going to take a week off! There are a few scripts I'm looking at the moment but it will depend. I won't do something just to be working; I have to find the right project. Hopefully that will happen soon!

This year’s Galway Film Fleadh is underway at Town Hall Theatre. For more information, log on to www.galwayfilmfleadh.com or phone 091-569777.
