One of The Crane Bar's most popular guests, Freddie White returns for a gig in the venue on Thursday 5 November. Born into a musical family in Cobh, County Cork, Freddy was playing in school bands at 13 years of age and by 17 was playing professionally. At 19, he moved to London where, busking in subways, he developed his unique voice and guitar style. In 1974, he was a founding member of Scullion, together with Philip King and Sonny Condell. Next came The Freddie White Band in 1978, which toured with Eric Clapton on his Irish Tour that year. His first album, Live on Tour, recorded by Nicky Ryan while Freddie toured with Clannad, brought him national attention. His second album, Do You Do, was the biggest selling Mulligan Label album of 1981. With these early albums, he introduced songwriters like Randy Newman and Guy Clark to an Irish audience. Freddie's latest studio album, ‘Four Days in May' was recorded in Dublin with some of Ireland's finest musicians. It showcases Freddie's songwriting prowess and unerring choice of eclectic interpretations. Doors 9.30pm. Tickets (€17.50/€15) are available now from The Crane Bar (091-587419) or at www.thecranebar.com. |
