There’s a feast of great Irish independent music in store at Strange Brew on New Year’s Eve in Róisín Dubh, with Fight Like Apes, Messiah J & The Expert, Disconnect 4, Le Galaxie and Feed The Bears.

Playing with the Prodigy and thrilling audiences all over the UK, Ireland and beyond with their incendiary live shows, it’s been a crazy rollercoaster year for Fight Like Apes. Combining their love of three-minute pop tunes and the digital distortion pedal, their debut album ‘Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion’ is the perfect passport to Planet FLApe, a jagged landscape of porcupine-pop tunes with striking non-linear lyrics, powered along by analog synths, b-movie samples, monstrous bass and propulsive drumming.

Messiah J & The Expert have grown into one of Ireland’s most insightful and inspirational acts and their experimentation with hip-hop and everything from soul to rock to reggae keeps them a step ahead of the pack. The third and latest album ‘From The Word Go’ from the Meteor Music Award and Choice Music Prize nominees sees the duo in their finest form yet with killer songs like ‘Turn The Magic On’ and ‘Amnesia Comes Easily’ getting regular national airplay.

The ever impressive Disconnect 4 have released their very first EP titled ‘Modern Love’ to much critical acclaim and two years of relentless gigging has seen them build a solid reputation as one of the brightest upcoming bands in Ireland. Their synth-based indie-pop tunes are regularly played on major UK and Irish radio stations, and online music network CMU even listed them as Band of the Month in November 2008.

Irish instrumental synth rock quartet extraordinaire Le Galaxie’s cascading guitars, synths, dance, electro, sci-fi and vocal distortion will be sure to help raise the roof on the night. Creating high-energy explosions on each and every stage they invade, the band relishes the opportunity to perform live and they’ve shared stages with the likes of The Whip, The Presets, Amusement Parks on Fire and Brakes. They released their debut EP earlier this year.

Doors 8pm and tickets (€20/€15 members) are available from the Róisín Dubh, Zhivago Shop Street and www.roisindubh.net.
