The Crane Bar welcomes Ruth Dillon and Bernie O'Mahoney back for their weekly bluegrass and country session this Saturday, 9 January. A singer/songwriter and musician who originally hails from Clonmel, Ruth is now settled in Galway. During a brief holiday in San Francisco in 1996, she joined some musicians on stage in 'The Plough and Stars', where she was spotted by none other than John Faulkner, the musical director for Dolores Keane who immediately asked Ruth to join the Dolores Keane band. After many successful years touring with Dolores, Ruth was asked to join her on the 'Woman's Heart (10 years on)' tour, which gave her the opportunity to sing and share the stage with Maura O'Connell, Mary Coughlan, Eleanor McEvoy and Cara Dillon. Her songwriting skills have drawn the attention of many major artists, notably Sean Tyrrell who recorded her song 'One Eye Open' on his album 'The Orchard'. Ruth also has received outstanding reviews for her performances as special guest with such acts as Ron Sexsmith, Richard Thompson, Luka Bloom, Jack L, Juniper, Altan and Sharon Shannon. The session starts at 9.30pm and is free as always. |
