Galway Choral Association will host its first youth choir summer school from Monday 6 to Friday 10 July in the Presentation Secondary School Galway. Aimed at 10 to14 year old boys and girls with an interest in either joining a choir or other group musical activity, the summer school will run from 10am to 3pm each day. Directed by Galway Choral Association's new youth choir director, Liz Johnston, the course will provide a choral environment to nurture the participants' interest in choral singing in addition to enhancing reading skills and improving overall musicianship. "This is a fantastic opportunity for any young person with a love of singing to receive tuition in choral skills and develop their ensemble awareness and musicianship skills," said Liz Johnston. "We will rehearse a programme of five pre-selected songs each day in preparation for a performance at the end of the week. The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment while fostering musical skills." The cost of the course is €75 with a family discount available (€10 discount per participant for two or more members of the same family). The music will be available in advance and informal auditions can be arranged for students unsure of their suitability for the course.
