Praised by The Telegraph as 'someone who can really give the mechanical box of wires and wood a singing soul', James Lisney will focus on two great composers for the piano whose 200th birthday are celebrated this year: Schumann and Chopin.

The programmes of a lunchtime recital on Tuesday 9 February and an evening recital on Thursday 11 February at 8pm are completely dedicated to these two great masters of the Romantic era.

As part of the residency, on Wednesday night at 7.30pm, Lisney will also give a lecture recital titled 'Learning from Chopin'. This is a free event and is aimed at anyone who enjoys piano music whether they themselves play or not.

Furthermore, there will be two piano-workshop sessions – both open to the public - with local piano students on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 February, both from 5pm to 7pm.

Tickets for the Tuesday lunchtime concert (€10/€6) and Thursday evening concert (€20 members/€16 concessions/€6 students) are available from Music for Galway on 091-705962 or Opus II, The Cornstore, Galway or online www.tht.ie.
