There are few books that reach a universal appeal that allows them to be translated into any language. ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘The Hounds of the Baskervilles’ jump quickly to mind as does that delightful little children-come-adult's book ‘Le Petit Prince’ by the French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

At some stage in the long distant book past, there was an Irish language version of this published, but it has long been out of print. Therefore this bright new shiny edition of Breandán Ó Doiblin's translation published by Read Ireland, the first publication from this press, is greatly welcomed and does not disappoint. As with the original text, the Irish is clear and accessible even for those who are not proficient in the language. In fact, the magical tale lends itself easily to the music of the Irish language and the translator was quick to spot this and exploit it.

All of this, and the almost fragile illustrations that pervade throughout, make this little volume a total delight. An Prionsa Beag by Anoine de Saint-Exupéry is currently available online at www.kennys.ie for €11.
