The Town Hall Theatre will play host to a new production of 'Dublin Carol' by Conor McPherson from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 February. Conor McPherson is widely regarded as one of the best contemporary Irish playwrights, with major hits such as 'The Weir' and 'Shining City'. 'Dublin Carol', which has been described by the Sunday Business Post as 'an elegant piece of writing and an unblinking examination of a very human character', has only been performed in Dublin to date. The scene is set in an undertaker's office on Christmas Eve. It has shades of death and a definite psychological undercurrent from Dickens and A Christmas Carol. But where Ebenezer Scrooge is redeemed by ghosts offering him the gift of self-knowledge, McPherson's anti-hero has no need of such generosity. He already has self-knowledge, or he thinks he has. There is a believable reasoning pattern running throughout the play. Liam Carney plays the central character in an edgy and physical performance that perfectly captures this challenging role.
