An unusual exhibition of paintings, Two for the Road, by husband and wife team George and Stef Callaghan opened at Kenny's Gallery last week. George's artistic focus is on making people aware of what is around them. His paintings are described as being cryptic visuals, full of nostalgia and childhood memories. Stef's figurative work is described as being character based, enjoying the involvement and interactions of women as they proceed with their daily life. She draws inspiration from Ireland's rich tapestry of people. There is no attempt at reality in Stef's clear cartoon-like compositions, in which voluptuous ladies are depicted at work and at play in bright perky landscapes. Between them, they have produced an exhibition full of colour, full of life and full of fun. These are images to delight the eye and make you smile. The exhibit will run at Kenny's Gallery, Galway until Thursday 22 February. |
