The Japanese Popstars, a true success story in Irish electronic music in the last few year or two, return to Galway for a show in De Burgho's on the Sunday night of the upcoming August Bank Holiday weekend.

The Derry natives – so no, they're not Japanese – have very quickly garnered a fanclub consisting of a list of the 'who's who' of UK press and dance music circles and it seems that - as fellow Derry boy Peter Cunnah (of D:REAM) sang all those years ago – 'things can only get Better' for the hard working threesome.

The Popstars have had a pretty hectic year; having just supported The Klaxons and Hadouken, their high profile fans include Steve Lamaqc, Erol Alkan, Pete Tong, Darren Emerson and 2ManyDjs and they have recently signed with ITB agency who represent acts such as Bob Dylan, Soulwax and Vitalic… Heady stuff indeed!

The Northern Ireland threesome – Declan McLaughlin, Gary Curran and Gareth Donoghue – have built up a large fanbase here in Ireland through incessant high octane performances rocking their big-room electronic tunes in clubs the length and breadth of the country; and they look set to do the same abroad this year as they've a crazy few months ahead with club and festival gigs in the UK and in Ibiza as well as releasing their debut long player 'We Just Are' on 27 July on electronica label Gung-Ho Recordings.

Catch The Japanese Popstars live and dj set - powered by Funktion One - in De Burgho's on Sunday 3 August, doors from 10pm, €12 on the door.
