Kinvara's new amateur drama group is to stage John B Keane's 'The Man from Clare' in Kinvara's recently refurbished Community Centre. John B Keane's play is a touching portrait of an ageing football star, Padraic, who is past his sporting prime. His progress toward a new stage of life pits him against his self-centered coach, Daigan, and a talented upstart player, Jim Flynn. Football has left no room for women in Padraic's life, but a sudden opportunity to change that arrives in the form of a shy housekeeper called Nellie. Amid rueful reflections, romance, brawls, song and beer, the play proves to be a charming portrait of the sacrifices made on the way to fulfilment. This play is sure to resonate with anyone who has ever had a dream that they have had to let go of. Hayden O'Connell directs the play, with set design by Eileen Fleming and costumes designed by Petra Bhreatnach. The cast includes Pádraig O Máírtín, Jim Earley, John Hearne, Micheal Smith, Christian Coady, Peter Galligan, Bríd Seoige, Paula Fahy, and Mallika McCarthy. The show will run for three nights, on Friday 26, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 January, at 8pm. Admission is €8 or €6 with concession. For further information, contact Brendan on 085-1509047. |
