An exhibition of works by international artist Frans Bleiji, 'Perception is Reality', will officially open at The White Room Gallery in Liosbán this Friday, 7 March at 7pm. ![]() Bleiji's hyper-realist style and curious affection for the old days through his subject matter provides the audience with a cultured nostalgia rarely seen amongst his contemporary peers. While previously working in abstract and surreal pieces and styles, Bleiji now focuses on simple and familial subject matters with inspiration sourced from within. Frans Bleiji was born in Leiden in 1950, and currently lives in Schiedam. He studied at the Koninklijke Academie in Den Haag and has exhibited regularly in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, New York and Curacao. He was recently awarded a Gold Medal for his work by the Beau-Arts Section of the French Académie Internationale de Lutèce at their annual art exhibition in Paris. Working as a professional artist for many years, Bleiji describes the process of 'disappearing into himself' when producing his most efficacious work. His pieces express a youthfulness and creativity with great refinement whose process nearly utters the subject matter plastic. His focus on children's toys is enhanced by his rich use of vibrant colour, which exacerbates the nostalgic effect previously mentioned. Another more innocuous focus is his exploration of the egg in still life. This inspection of the egg, possibly seen as a representation for the beginning of life, is made actuate through various stages of whole to broken or fragmented.
