![]() A combination of 'One For The Road' and 'Fleadh Dancers'. An exhibition by self-taught, French artist Olivier Longuet, titled 'Loud and Bold', is on display at The Gallery Café in Gort until Sunday 3 February. Olivier Longuet was born in France in 1975, spending half of his childhood between St-Malo in Brittany and the town of Cognac in the South. He moved to Ireland in 1998 and has now set up his workshop in Bell Harbour, Co. Clare. Longuet came to drawing and painting at a young age. Since then, he has worked on a wide variety of mediums, such as watercolours, crayons, sketching markers, pastels, oils and acrylics. He now does most of his work using oil on canvas. 'Loud and bold' grew out of the desire to use simple shapes to represent the complex stances of bodies in action. Complemented by vivid colours and sharp contrasts, the paintings appear to be very much in movement. Mostly taken from areas he is very familiar with, surfing and Irish music, Olivier is also exploring the work of great renaissance artists or the Burren and Galway landscapes. |
