An exhibition of paintings by the artist Frank Sanford, titled 'Lashing Rain', will be opened on Saturday 5 July at 7pm by John Dinan, Artist and Director of Cong Art Gallery in the Russell Gallery.

Sanford, originally from the United States, has been a working artist for over 40 years, showing in many galleries and shows across North America.

Moving to Ireland over a decade ago, he settled in Kinvara, County Galway, where he has his studio. He paints plein air and in studio using watercolour, oil and pastel.

Frank's deep love of nature informs his every brushstroke. His ability to express changes in mood is reflected in his use of colour and light, which is subtle, sensitive and strong.

Lashing rain and wet rocks; pounding surf and distant storms; soft wet mists that kiss the early morning air and the light filtered by that mist have all been inspirational for this coming exhibition.
