Liam Gavin, a popular senior official with Galway County Council passed away suddenly yesterday, Wednesday.
Tributes have been pouring in for Mr Gavin (57) and his death has been described as a “dark day” for the council by Galway County Council Chief Executive, Kevin Kelly.
Mr Gavin suffered a heart attack on Monday and passed away on Wednesday.
He was a native of Castlebar but lived in Galway city.
Mr Gavin, who was Director of Services for Roads and Transportation, was instrumental in the council’s assistance efforts during last year’s flooding across the county.
Yesterday, Wednesday’s budget meeting of Galway County Council was postponed on hearing of his untimely death.
He is survived by his wife Eileen and children Aine and Tomas.
