The multi-award-winning Brokentalkers have built a reputation as one of Ireland’s most innovative and original theatre companies. This spring, they present the vital ‘The Blue Boy’, which deals with the experiences of men and women who were incarcerated as children in Catholic residential care institutions.
Presenting the voices of people who resided in such institutions around Ireland, this compelling work combines startling choreography with live music, multimedia and film from leading Irish artists.
‘The Blue Boy’ met with great critical acclaim as it premiered in Ireland and abroad, and sold out when presented at Dublin Theatre Festival and Dublin Dance Festival. The Financial Times lauded its “powerfully physical, haunting material”, while The Irish Times described the play as “a brilliantly intricate staging that achieves a compellingly ritualistic quality”.
The drama brings a fresh theatrical voice to stories of child abuse, and intense physical expression to the anguish experienced by those who were silenced.
‘The Blue Boy’ runs at 8pm on Wednesday 27 April in the Town Hall Theatre, with tickets costing €18/€15 from www.tht.ie or by calling 091-569777.
