Tuam Stars 2-6
Champions Corofin, bidding to reach their fifth final in a row, were sent crashing out at as brothers Conor and Paul Doherty blasted home goals for Tuam Stars to decide this semi-final on Sunday.
Tuam are the most prolific winners of the Galway title with 25 crowns but they have not won it since 1994 but goals in either half at Tuam Stadium from the Dohertys were enough to see them advance.
Corofin, winners of 11 Galway titles in the last 21 years, did not get their first score until two minutes from the interval, by which time Conor Doherty’s goal had helped Tuam surge 1-3 to 0-0 in front.
Tomas Costelloe got a couple of points and Alan O’Donovan also found the range to leave it 1-3 to 0-3 at the break before Paul Doherty fisted to the net less than a minute after the restart.
Tuam managed only three points after that but while Corofin staged a good rally, largely through frees from Costelloe, they were unable to snatch an equalising goal in the closing stages, despite Tuam being reduced to 14 men when wing-back Donal Marley picked up a second yellow card.
