Applied Ecologist Noirin Burke from Galway Atlantaquaria had a following of over 100 people on a blustery Ballyloughane beach on Sunday last to take part in the Beach Safari hosted by the aquarium and Galway City Council.

Two NUI Galway students have played a key part in planning for the Volvo Ocean Race, which is expected to attract over 150,000 visitors to Galway next year. 
 
'Paddle on the Prom' this September

A new charity event that will take place off Salthill Promenade this September, titled ‘Paddle on the Prom’, will be launched in Massimos this Thursday 10 July at 8pm. The event is being organised by Galway Surfers in order to raise funds for the Galway Lifeboats (RNLI), and will take place on 14 September.
 
Blustery conditions for dingy sailing in the bay

Dinghy sailing at Galway Bay Sailing Club continued last week with the racing held in very blustery conditions. A top wind speed of 34 knots was recorded at the club’s weather station.

John Lowther has the unenviable task of making sure that every tiny cog in the machine that is Galway Bay Sailing Club is ready and waiting for every event. As the club's first full-time manager, a background in hospitality and catering is useful for the social side of things, but sailing is a whole new challenge for him.

Despite a shocking average of 13 drownings occurring in Ireland every month, Irish Water Safety have advised that this tragic figure will decrease if the public observes a responsibility to protect themselves, their family and friends from the dangers of cold shock, hypothermia and drowning.

 
Summer cruising kicks off at Bow Waves

Bow Waves, Galway Sailing and Powerboat School have started their summer cruising program. The first cruise starts on Saturday 12 July and is heading to destinations like the Aran Islands and Inishbofin.
