One of the Galway stopover's masterminds, John Killeen is originally from Athlone. After a childhood spent on rowing boats on the Shannon, it was only natural that John would continue to stay near the water, and when he moved to Dublin for college in UCD he began to sail.

The 5th and penultimate race of the O'Tuairisg Spring Series was held last Wednesday in sunshine and a light 10 knot westerly breeze.

Tuesday saw 20 boats form the mono and multihull fleets compete in the final race of the Tuesday Spring Dinghy series. Race Officer, Noel Harvey,organised a Committee boat start and set a perfect Olympic course for the conditions. The wind was expected Northerly but backed North-West just before the start.

The penultimate race in the Dinghy Spring Series took place on a fabulous evening for sailing, Tuesday 13 May. There was a fresh and gusty wind coming in from the East and it was both sunny and warm. Aoife Lyons, race officer, moved the start line to outside the moored cruisers to give room for all seventeen boats in the fast downwind start.
