Bow Waves, the Galway Sailing and Powerboat School, is organising the Connaught School Team Racing Championships and the National School Team Racing Championships.
The Connaught event is to be held in Rosmoney in Clew Bay, Co. Mayo on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 of March in conjunction with Mayo Sailing Club.

The Tribesmen Rowing Club is to hold the inaugural National Fours Head of the River in Galway at the end of March.
This is the second such event they have been selected to host this year after being chosen by Rowing Ireland to run the new National Eights Head.
The National Heads of the River are part of an innovative re-jig of the rowing calendar, introducing a new class of competition.

Scubadive West, a Connemara-based dive centre, recently ran a very popular 'Discover Scuba' evening in the city.
The event took place in the swimming pool at the Kingfisher Sports Complex in NUI Galway and attracted enthusiastic water-lovers of all ages.

The Galway Powerboat and Watersports Club (GPWC) will hold their ‘Start of Season’ social at Monroe's Tavern on Friday 26 February.
The event will kick off at 9pm and drinks, finger food and free entry to Monroe;s Live will be available on the night. Non-members or people who may be interested in joining the club are encouraged to attend, as this is a very relaxed way to get to know the other club members.

I last wrote to you updating on Cork's progress towards the scoring gate for Race 5 and this blog finds me on Cape Breton Island, the Canadian representative in the 09/10 race, without any of my fellow crewmembers and a new skipper. From what I can gather, the event got quite a bit of coverage at home, so the news of Cork's demise may not be anything new to some of you, but I'll give a quick run through of what we encountered that night from the perspective of an onboard crewmember.

A Galway native, Charles (19) took up rowing some eight years ago and rowing quickly became his number one sport. He windsurfs on occasion and having a passion for the water has tried out many other water-sports while on holiday.
Last year Charles was elected as President of NUI Galway Rowing Club for the coming year and is very involved both on the river and in the committee rooms. Charles is busy between training.

The National Kayaking Intervarsities is being held in Galway this Valentine's weekend by the NUI Galway Kayak Club.
This event sees three days of exhilarating competition across four different disciplines with over 350 students from 15 different colleges set to take part. The kayaking Intervarsity is the second biggest canoeing event in Ireland, outranked only by the Liffey Descent.
