Galway based rural entrepreneurs who are considering establishing a new business can now avail of an exciting opportunity to partake in a Rural Entrepreneurship course delivered by UCD in Galway under the Government’s Springboard educational programme.
The Innovation Academy of University College Dublin is offering its highly respected University Certificate in Rural Entrepreneurship. This opportunity for Galway’s rural entrepreneurs has been described by Junior Education Minister Ciaran Cannon as timely and valuable.
“This is a fundamentally different educational programme. The course enables ambitious and enthusiastic students to transform their ideas into real business propositions,” said Minister Cannon.
One of Galway’s most successful rural entrepreneurs, who is directly involved in delivering the course, is Ronan Byrne, the Friendly Farmer, who has achieved significant success in creating a rural enterprise selling award winning free range food products.
“The course objective is to foster innovative and entrepreneurial thinking to enable students to develop sustainable businesses,” said Mr Byrne.
“We are creating a ‘learn by doing’ class environment with links to our best rural entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs will provide their own experiences as a learning platform for new entrants to the start-up environment,” he added.
Applications for this course are invited from those who are unemployed and already hold a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) award at Level 5 or higher (eg Leaving Certificate), with a previous history of employment or self-employment and a motivation for rural entrepreneurship.
Mature students (those over 20 years of age), who did not complete the Leaving Certificate can apply and will be assessed based on their motivation and entrepreneurial endeavour to date.
The course starts on 23 September and finishes on 11 February 2014. The class times are 9am-5pm, Mondays and Tuesdays. More information is available on www.springboardcourses.ie and by calling 087-2273385.
The closing date for applications is next Monday, 23 September as applicants can register on the opening night of the course.
