The people of Salthill would like to see the raft back at Blackrock.
That’s according to FG Councillor Pearce Flannery, who said the people of Salthill were “vociferous to have it back”.
The raft was removed on health and safety grounds in 2014.
At this Monday’s council meeting, Cllr Flannery asked if it was Galway City Council or Irish Water Safety who were in charge of the situation.
Galway City Council Chief Executive, Brendan McGrath warned that there is “a risk associated” both when the raft is attended, and when it is not attended.
A document presented to councillors detailed the health and safety concerns as to its use.
Mr McGrath warned the councillors that if they reinstate it, “the repercussions rest with yourselves.”
Mr McGrath added that the document presented to councillors stated that it should not be put it back, and it did so for particular reasons. He asked that the issue be brought to the next council meeting in May.
