The Irish Academy of Public Relations has introduced a new course for television presenters who are interested in working in current affairs. The course, which is aimed at people who want to work in current affairs television but who don't have the necessary training, will be held every Saturday for four months, starting on Saturday 17 February. "The course will also benefit graduates of journalism or print journalists who want to move into television, and might appeal to PR people thinking of moving to the other side of the communications industry," said Ellen Gunning, director of the academy. It will involve learning about pre-production, production and post-production techniques, research skills and understanding the language of television. Students will conduct single-camera outdoor interviews and multi-camera in-studio interviews, and will be given a showreel, which they can play, for future employers. There will be a written exam at the end of the four months. The course is validated by the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM) UK. It costs ?3,750 and will be taught at three centres: GMIT (Galway), UCD (Dublin) and UCC (Cork).
