Sherry FitzGerald Lettings has opened for business in Galway City. The venture, a franchise office, will operate within the Sherry FitzGerald Kavanagh group of businesses based at 4 Eyre Square and will be headed up by Linda McCallion.

The Irish residential property market has enjoyed a period of particularly strong rental growth in the year to date.

Commenting on the opening of the new office, Ms McCallion said: "The Galway rental market has continued to expand albeit that rental growth has moderated in the recent past. Uncertainty in the property market has led to many owners deciding to rent their properties rather than sell. This is proving to be a good option for many shrewd homeowners. At the same time people unsure of purchasing, are choosing to rent until the property market has stabilised. These factors are contributing to an extremely positive residential lettings market in and around Galway, which looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.

"With the welcome of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009 and continued demand from the corporate sector the need for rental accommodation is stronger than ever before. To cope with this projected demand, we feel there is a greater requirement than ever before for a full Lettings and Property Management Office, run by experienced lettings staff. Many investors and tenants are now demanding a more professional Letting and Management service, and we will be providing just that."

This is the tenth year of business in Galway City for Tony Kavanagh, Managing Director of Sherry FitzGerald Kavanagh who believes this specialist lettings business to be a welcome initiative to meet changing market demands and higher client service expectations.

Commenting on the launch of Sherry FitzGerald Lettings Mr Kavanagh said: "The Irish Lettings Market is enjoying a buoyant period of expansion, with the latest available data revealing that rental levels for privately rented accommodation are growing at the fastest annual rate since 2001. Galway City supports a very young population with two large educational institutions (NUIG & GMIT) and is an attractive location for many international companies to set up. Demand for rental accommodation continues to increase. Sherry FitzGerald is recognized as Ireland's premier property brand both in Sales and Lettings ad we are proud to add the specialist lettings Sherry FitzGerald Lettings brand to our business service offering."
