BPW's annual public speaking competition for senior schoolgirls kicks off this year with the Western Regional final taking place at 7pm on Monday next, 12 November in Aras Moyola, NUI, Galway.

The competition is sponsored by Bank of Ireland and provides an ideal opportunity for girls to develop skills needed as they move into university and ultimately into the workplace. A number of schools from counties Mayo and Galway will compete in Monday's competition, and the winners will compete in the National Finals which will be held this year in the Aula Maxima NUIG on Saturday 24 November.

Maureen Mooney, Chairperson of the organising committee, says that the competition has been extremely popular among schools in the West and is looking forward to another lively demonstration of public speaking skills on Monday evening. "The standard among the competitors has always been very high, with huge commitment shown by competitors and their teachers over the past number of years."

Both events are open to the public, and BPW Galway encourages students, teachers and parents to come along to what promises to be very enjoyable and worthwhile events.
