The booklet, which is aimed predominantly at Oran Pre Cast Ltd's non-English speaking employees, will be issued to all site crews to set guidelines for the secure use of equipment and to promote the use of procedures that will eliminate accidents and injuries among staff. The Safety Awareness Booklet is composed of vivid and vibrant illustrations over sixteen pages and is a convenient guidebook for all construction workers that can be referred to with ease. "Due to the high risk nature involved in our industry, I felt that the installation process had to be consistent for each and every project undertaken. It was decided to try and capture the key safety measures to be taken during the installation of hollow core flooring in an illustrated format. The booklet is proving to be an extremely effective tool in heightening awareness of our employees when on site. In the future, we hope to develop the initiative further and incorporate the Safety Awareness Booklet into our numerous other work activities, and already work has begun on our next instalment – so watch this space," commented Mark Patterson, Health and Safety Manager Oran Pre-Cast Ltd. Tom Parlon, CIF Director General in congratulating Oran Pre-Cast on their initiative said; "the launch of the Oran Pre-Cast Safety Awareness Booklet is an example of the innovative safety initiatives being taken the length and breadth of the country by construction companies." The issuing of the Safety Awareness Booklet follows a set of safety initiatives that Oran Pre-Cast Ltd have undertaken in 2008 to improve on the staff's knowledge of potentially dangerous acts and how to avoid these. Other initiatives Oran Pre-Cast Ltd have implemented include fall protection for trailers, G-Lok anchor system and ladder systems for on-site activity. OPC was founded in 1981 and over the years the company has grown to be one of the largest and most progressive precast manufacturers in the country. OPC now boasts an extensive facility including manufacturing plant and design offices on a forty-acre site in Deerpark Industrial Estate in the thriving industrial heartland of Galway and employees circa 200 employees. |
