A total of 42 staff are involved in the relocation and three new positions have been created for the West. The Irish language news programme will benefit from a more extensive schedule and an increased number of time-slots, much to the delight of he Nuacht team and Irish speakers alike.

The Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, along with all party leaders have welcomed the launch of the new RTE Nuacht service from the TG4 Headquarters.

In a message to staff, Mr Cowen said the relocation to the Connemara Gaeltacht "would be a great challenge but a significant development".

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said "TG4 is the natural home for the Nuacht service" while Labour leader Eamon Gilmore, said, "it was a most sensible decentralisation development and a natural headquarters for the RTÉ Nuacht service".
