A new legal service which aims to provide legal advice over the phone at a fraction of the usual cost is sure to cause ructions in the legal market. Legal Line, a legal phone service which provides ten minutes of legal advice for just €29, is a new venture in what has traditionally been a very settled marketplace. Managing Director of LegalLine, Rachel McDaid, stated "Our objective is very clear; we want to provide sound legal advice to the consumer without the usual expenses or inconveniences to accompany it. Many people will have legal queries that will be quite quick to advise on and they can avoid a hefty consultation fee, the time it takes to go to the solicitor's office, time off work, child minding, parking, etc. by dialling LegalLine 1890-440000." Solicitors from all over the country are participating in the new service, including Galway-based James Seymour and Sara Horan. At a time when the consumer is increasingly conscious of both time and money, Legal Line has timed its arrival well. Only recently the chairman of the Consumer Association, James Doorley brought to the public's attention the findings that Ireland the fifth most expensive country for conveyancing in Europe. McDaid stated, "Legal Line is about providing cost effective legal advice. It may be the case that the client will require legal representation, the point of LegalLine is to make them aware of their legal status and options so they can make an informed decision about how to proceed. LegalLine will put the caller through to an expert LegalLine panel Solicitor in the area of law that they need advice and will give them an opportunity to discuss their legal options from the comfort of their own home or office simply by using a telephone."
