O2 Ireland has announced that the iPhone 3G will be released here on 11 July. Like the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G combines three products in one, a phone, a widescreen iPod, and an Internet device with HTML email and a desktop-class web browser. In addition to this, the new iPhone aims to provide 3G networking that is up to twice as fast as its predecessor, has a built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software Perhaps the real perk to the new device for Irish customers though, is the introductory price offers. The price of the iPhone 3G device will be subsidised and priced according to which of the existing three iPhone tariffs a customer chooses to sign up to, with the subsidised device prices starting from just €49. Existing iPhone customers will be able to upgrade to the new device, taking advantage of the same great deal as new customers. The new pricing is also available for non-iPhone O2 customers eligible for an upgrade. Speaking after the announcement, CEO of O2 Ireland, Danuta Grey was delighted at the record of the iPhone in Ireland so far. "The iPhone has already proved to be an extremely popular device with O2 Ireland customers since its launch in March and we anticipate a similar response to iPhone 3G when it goes on sale on July 11. "O2 Ireland's strategy continues to be to bring our customers the very best innovations and experiences in mobile communications. iPhone is changing the way people use their mobiles forever." iPhone 3G will be available in an 8GB model and a 16GB model. The 8GB iPhone 3G will cost €49 on the €100 monthly iPhone tariff, €99 on the €65 tariff and €169 on the €45 tariff. The 16GB iPhone 3G will cost €129 on the €100 monthly tariff option, €169 on the €65 tariff and €229 on the €45 tariff. All iPhone tariffs include anytime minutes, texts and a 1GB data bundle. In a separate announcement last week, O2 and Bitbuzz, Ireland's leading Wi-Fi service provider, have agreed a new deal to provide O2's iPhone customers with free access to Bitbuzz Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the country. The deal, which is for an initial duration of 2 years, will cover the provision of Wi-Fi Internet access at all Bitbuzz locations in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, 155 in total and access will be available from July 11 2008. |
