A new book on work-life balance was launched in Galway last week. 'Work-Life Balance: Policies and & Initiatives in Irish Organisations' by the Centre for Innovation and Structural Change (CISC) at NUI, Galway, was launched on Monday by Minister Éamon Ó Cuív. The new publication from Oak Tree Press was written by Geraldine Grady and Dr Alma McCarthy from CISC at NUI, Galway, Dr Colette Darcy at the National College of Ireland and Dr Melrona Kirrane at Dublin City University. According to the authors, the book provides a thorough and accessible review of key research on flexible working and work-life balance in Irish organisations. It builds a compelling business case for investment in flexible working initiatives in the workplace. Additionally, it sets out a comprehensive framework for designing, implementing and evaluating flexible working and work-life balance initiatives, thereby providing a valuable tool for managers and organisations. Dr Alma McCarthy of NUI, Galway highlighted the relevance of the publication: "In today's competitive environment, employers are continually seeking ways to manage key talent in the organisation, as well as attracting prospective employees from a wider audience. Employees on the other hand are in search of a greater balance in their work and non-work lives." The book is the culmination of a two-year Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) grant-funded project at the Centre for Innovation and Structural Change. |
